Short-term monitoring is available when a time-sensitive result is needed, including real estate transactions. Because radon levels change from day to day and season to season, a short-term result is a limited snapshot and is not a substitute for a long-term measurement of annual exposure.
Health Canada recommends testing for at least three months to estimate a home’s average annual radon level. Long-term testing is the preferred option for homeowners making health and mitigation decisions and is most representative when at least 91 days occur during the heating season.
